The Lion asks if that is really his motivation, and cautions him to avoid trusting his heart as emotions can sometimes blind one to the truth. Dante explains that he is in Inferno to rescue Beatrix, after she had been unjustly punished for crimes she did not commit. The Lion then appears to Dante one last time, and asks him what he is really searching for. Before they disappear, however, they mention that they will not reveal what forces generate the actions that they undertake. The Wolf informs him that no one else will be able to see or hear them, and together they state that they will both hinder and help him.

The Lion also states that they can represent his greatest virtues, and advises Dante to not forget it. The Wolf says that they represent Dante's sins, while the Lynx say that they represent his weaknesses. The Lion explains that they are special spirits that arose due to the special nature of Dante's presence in Inferno. A Lion then shows itself, along with a Wolf, stating that they are the Three Mythical Beasts. The Lynx then warns Dante that the journey to the gates of Inferno is not meant for souls who haven't been punished.ĭante asks the Lynx who they are, where he is, and why does it keep doing that weird laugh. The Lynx tells Dante that he hasn't died, and has arrived in Inferno safely thanks to his brotherhood. He asks if he was not able to save Beatrix, but then is suddenly approached by a Lynx. It is then explained that only a few chosen souls are able to leave after centuries of punishment, if they happen to be pardoned by the Unnamed.ĭante suddenly wakes up, and tries to get his bearings, wondering if he has died and his journey is already over. It is explained that Inferno is a place for those who have committed crimes so heinous that they have been punished with Damnatio Memoriae, where all traces of the person are removed from the outside world, and where those who are punished suffer from eternal damnation. It is then mentioned that Inferno is not a part of ALICE, nor is it a place where lost souls from ALICE go rather, it is a part of the Empyrean, a persistent world created using lost arcane knowledge and is not connected to any universal network. It is stated that those who inhabit it don't know when it was created, though some state that in ages long ago it was the closest place to the divinity. In some unknown place, Dante speaks out to the one he loves, Beatrix, and vows to bring her back.Ī quick exposition is then given about the place known as " Inferno" - a well known yet mysterious place. Caronte, meanwhile, realizes that Dante actually managed to land a single hit on her, despite her being a Guardian, and remarks that this was a good day.Dante manages to last long enough to reach the other side, and after he recovers they set out to see Minos.

The story takes place in a place known as Inferno, a part of the Empyrean which is a persistent world that is disjoint from ALICE.
